Welcome!

The Sussex Rural Past website is home to the programme of young people led heritage projects from Action in rural Sussex.  Each project encourages a high level of participation from its young volunteers living in rural areas, providing them with opportunities to become engaged with and learn more about their communities.  The projects also encourage involvement from all sections of the community to work together to discover and share their unique heritage.

You can find out more about Changing Estates, an HLF funded project exploring the history of social housing in three rural areas of Sussex.  Meeting Places is currently running in Battle, where young people are uncovering the hidden histories of some of the town’s buildings. It is also being funded by the HLF. Future Village is our newest project and is being funded by the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation.  Young people will be looking back 50 years into their community’s history and use their findings to predict the future for their village – for better or worse!

You can add your comments or stories anywhere on the site, just follow the link at the bottom of each page.
